“Luke, you don’t know the power of the dark side of the Force,” Darth Vader tempted when he battled his son, Luke Skywalker.
So go the voices at the Democratic National Convention who, after years of incursions, have fully given over to the dark side of socialism and the ideology of the radical left. Just days before the convention, Vice President Kamala Harris announced that her presidential economic policy would focus on price controls to bring down the cost of groceries.
She also offered more Big Government proposals, such as giving first-time homebuyers $25,000 to buy a home and making the refundable child tax credit even larger—without work requirements.
Senator Bernie Sanders offered up more of the socialist vision of giving everyone free and government-run health care and bringing down the cost of prescription drugs by 50%.
These giveaways and Big Government promises of sending you money, helping you get your first house, and giving you free health care with cheap drugs sound as wonderful as holding a winning lottery ticket in your hand. But, just like the dark side of the Force, the promises are an illusion of control and tyranny.
Taxing the life out of hard-working Americans, subjugating businesses to price controls, and running up spending and debt to moonshot levels will destroy the American economy. We saw this very scenario play out in Venezuela at the turn of this century when Hugo Chavez tricked the people of his country into voting for the glory of a socialist state. Chavez, of course, became the dictator of a communist state, and the people of Venezuela experienced hyperinflation, food shortages, fuel shortages, and the loss of all their political freedom.
I’m so saddened that middle school, high school, and college students in America have not been taught the true evils of communism with detailed historical comparisons between communism and true representative democracy. A generation of Americans are now being enticed to dive right into the depravity of the dark side of communism. The only way to preserve the America we know and love is to teach our kids and grandkids the true lessons of history and fight, fight, fight in the public square of ideas and elections.
