I enjoyed meeting Eric Trump recently when he was in Tulsa. In his own right, he is a very talented, capable, and impressive business executive who has done a tremendous job running the Trump Organization since his father, Donald Trump, became President in 2016.
Apparently, Eric is a major fan and supporter of the new generation of space rockets being developed by visionary Elon Musk. Eric has gotten to know Musk and is excited about the progress of SpaceX and the goal to get back to the moon and eventually explore Mars.
Herein lies the fundamental beauty of the American free market system and fascinating innovation by visionary entrepreneurs, which is entirely at odds with the worldviews of Kamala Harris and the radical left.
According to Wall Street Journal reporter Gareth Vipers, regulators in California have rejected a request by the U.S. Space Force to permit SpaceX to launch up to 50 rockets a year from Vandenberg Space Force near Santa Barbara (WSJ 10/16/24).
The California Coastal Commission voted down the rocket-launching request 6 to 4. Then, indicating disdain for Musk & SpaceX, Commissioner Gretchen Newsome made the following bizarre comments during the commission meeting; “Elon Musk is hopping about the country, spewing and tweeting political falsehoods and attacking FEMA while claiming to help the hurricane victims with free Starlink access to the internet.” Like a cranky malcontent, Newsome proceeded to accuse Musk of “bigoted beliefs against California safeguards and protections for our transgender community.”
What in the world does that have to do with anything? SpaceX is critical to the Department of Defense and also provides thousands of excellent, high-paying jobs. But this radical leftist regulator wants to prevent growth and opportunity for people just because she doesn’t like Musk’s politics.
SpaceX is rightly suing the Commission and has stated, “Rarely has a government agency made so clear that it was exceeding its authorized mandate to punish a company for political views and statements of its largest shareholder and CEO.” Go Elon!
